Special Mask 1:72 masking set for the Nakajima Ki-43-III Hayabusa: die-cut masks for spraying the glazing of the Japanese fighter accurately. An accessory for a build, not a model.
Responsibility details are not available.
Die-cut self-adhesive masks from Special Mask for a model of the Japanese Nakajima Ki-43-III fighter in 1:72 scale. It is not a kit and not decals; it is an accessory that takes the place of slow hand cutting of adhesive tape and gives a clean color transition on the frames of the cockpit canopy.
The Ki-43 Hayabusa was a Japanese army fighter, known to the Allies by the code name Oscar. It was built around a light structure and excellent agility, which it paid for with modest armament and, at first, with a lack of protection. The version III was the last development line of the type and received a more powerful engine. The cockpit has a greenhouse-type canopy with several frames, which is exactly the situation where pre-cut masks save the most work.
In 1:72 scale the frames are thin, often under a millimeter, and a hand cut of that width cannot be repeated reliably. Lift the mask off the sheet with the tip of a scalpel, lay it down dry and only after checking its position press it down with a toothpick so that the edge seats along its whole length; otherwise the paint will creep underneath. Plug the cockpit opening beforehand with damp cotton or modeling putty. Spray the interior shade first, then, once dry, the airframe color, in several thin coats. Take the mask off shortly after it has dried, pulling it away at an angle to the side. Keep the remaining sheet in its packaging away from dust and direct light, and the tack will last for another build.
This is an accessory for a build. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
