A dark gray listed under the designation 507A. The abbreviation RN in the name refers to the Royal Navy, in whose palette the gray finishes are marked with a number and a letter, so that they can be told apart even where a description in words is too general. With naval grays that is exactly what helps: several tones go under the name dark gray, and the difference between them shows as soon as two models stand side by side. The item belongs to the Red Line range from Hataka.
Shake the bottle thoroughly before use, as the pigment settles to the bottom. Choose the thinner and the thinning ratio according to the manufacturer's instructions on the packaging and use the thinner intended for this range, as a foreign thinner can curdle the paint. Apply it in several thin coats; one heavy coat drowns the rivets, the joints and the fine surface relief. Wash and degrease the surface before painting, and on larger smooth areas use a primer, over which a dark shade comes out evenly.
Dark gray finds its place on the sides and superstructures of ship models, on armament and equipment, and as the darker part of two-tone schemes. In a small scale dark tones look darker still than they really are, so it pays to lift large areas slightly with a lighter hint in the middle of the panels. Let the finished paint cure properly before you put a glaze or a clear coat on it, otherwise the dark base smears easily.
Thinner, brushes, airbrushes and the model are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
