A turned metal 105 mm barrel for a model of the StuH 42 Ausf. G assault howitzer in the early configuration, 1:35 scale. It replaces the barrel from a plastic kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The StuH 42 was a German assault howitzer built on the chassis of the StuG III assault gun. Instead of an anti-tank gun it carried a 105 mm howitzer derived from the leFH 18 field howitzer and was intended mainly to destroy fortified positions and to fire on infantry. The designation L/28 gives the length of the barrel in multiples of the caliber, that is roughly twenty-eight times, not the caliber itself. The letter G denotes the production variant of the chassis on which the howitzer appeared most often.
A metal barrel machined on a lathe, that is a replacement part for the barrel from a plastic kit. The reference to the early configuration in the name distinguishes this barrel from later forms of the weapon. Which kit and which variant to combine it with is given by the manufacturer's instructions, so check that before the build.
The main benefit of a metal barrel is a smooth cylindrical surface without a longitudinal mark from manufacture and an open muzzle, which on a plastic part has to be laboriously drilled. The seating in the mantlet may need slight sanding, so try it dry. It is glued with super glue, as cement for plastic does not hold on metal. Before painting, wash the part, degrease it and go over it with a base coat, otherwise the finish does not hold on smooth metal and rubs off during handling.
The kit of the vehicle, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
