Injection-molded plastic kit of the Israeli Merkava Mk.III main battle tank in 1:35 scale from Academy. The model captures the upgraded third generation with modular armor and a 120 mm gun. The kit is usually supplemented with photo-etched parts and the chain curtain with ball weights that defeats shaped-charge rounds. It is a newer and more modern form than the original Merkava. The Merkava is the main battle tank of the Israel Defense Forces, and its whole concept puts the emphasis on protecting the crew. The engine sits at the front and forms additional protection, while at the rear there is a compartment that lets the crew get in and out and allows wounded men to be carried. The Mk.III version brought modular armor that can be changed quickly in the field, a more powerful power pack and a 120 mm gun. The characteristic chain curtain with ball weights on the turret rear breaks up incoming shaped-charge rounds.
Assemble and paint the running gear before you cover it with the side skirts. Glue the parts with thin cement for plastic and attach the chain curtain and the photo-etched parts with cyanoacrylate glue. Israeli vehicles wear the typical desert gray (Sinai) shade, which you can lift after spraying with a wash, edge highlighting and fine dust pigments on the running gear.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
