A replacement barrel for the main weapon of the German Panther medium tank in 1:35 scale. It is not a vehicle model but an accessory in its own right which replaces the barrel from the box. According to the name there is one piece in the package. On the Panther the barrel is the most exposed part of the whole model to the eye, so every inaccuracy of shape and every remnant of a parting line shows on it.
The 7.5 cm KwK 42 L/70 gun was the most valuable thing the Panther carried. Against the shorter 7.5 cm guns of the earlier types it had a markedly longer barrel, thanks to which it reached a high muzzle velocity, a flat trajectory and effectiveness at long range. It ended in a double-baffle muzzle brake, which carried off part of the recoil and is at the same time a typical recognition feature of the whole weapon. It is precisely this long, slender barrel that gives the Panther the silhouette by which it can be told even at a distance.
Look at the muzzle opening and the bores of the muzzle brake against the light and carefully clean out any excess with a drill turned in the fingers. It pays to paint the barrel separated from the turret so that it can be turned in the fingers, and to fit it only onto the finished model. On the long surfaces, fine shading along the length of the barrel and light highlighting of the edges come out well. The muzzle and the front of the brake take smoky and sooty tones, because that is exactly where the fouling settled most on the real thing.
