This accessory replaces the exhaust (engine) nozzle of the F-105 Thunderchief in 1:72 scale. The part is 3D-printed from modeling resin and designed to fit precisely into the F-105 kit from Trumpeter. This is not an aircraft model — the package contains only the resin nozzle, which you fit in place of the plastic part from the box.

What it is for

The nozzle is one of the most visually prominent spots on a jet model: everyone who picks the model up looks into it. Injection-molded plastic runs up against the mold's limits here — the walls are thick, and the internal ribbing and nozzle segments are simplified. The resin nozzle offers a thinner rim, fine internal detail and sharp definition, which, once painted with metallic shades and weathering, significantly lifts the realism of the model's tail section. The F-105 Thunderchief was a heavy American fighter-bomber with a single powerful jet engine, widely used over Vietnam, and its massive tail is inseparable from its silhouette.

Working with the resin part

• Wash the part in lukewarm water with dish soap — this removes mold release agent and residue of print resin.
• Carefully cut off the print supports and casting blocks with a saw or a sharp knife.
• Glue with cyanoacrylate glue or epoxy, not plastic cement.
• Sand wet and with a respirator, since resin dust is harmful to health.
• Apply a primer before painting; metallic shades work well on the nozzle, finished off with a dark wash and fine burnt effects.
