An injection-molded plastic kit of the British battleship HMS Prince of Wales in 1:700 scale from Tamiya, from the Waterline Series. The model has a hull at the level of the waterline, main-caliber turrets with their characteristic quadruple arrangement, a broken-up superstructure and anti-aircraft armament. An enclosed nameplate serves for display.
HMS Prince of Wales belonged to the British King George V class and carried ten 356 mm guns in turrets with an unconventional combined layout. While still incomplete, the ship took part in the action against the German battleship Bismarck in the Denmark Strait. At the end of 1941 she was sunk, together with the battlecruiser Repulse, by a Japanese air attack off the coast of Malaya; it was one of the first cases of large ships sunk in the open sea by aircraft alone.
Clean the joints of the hull and the deck carefully. Apply the gray camouflage shade with an airbrush, and a fine wash will pick out the panel lines and the details. The fine railings and radars come into their own once a photo-etched set is added, which is not included in the package. The model can be displayed on a stand or set into a diorama with a water surface.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
