The real subject

The Horch 108 was a German heavy off-road staff car with four-wheel drive, used as a command and transport vehicle. The Typ 40 is a later version of this range. The body is open, so the inside of the car stays visible over its whole area on the finished model: the seats, the dashboard and the floor are all exposed when seen from above, and there is nowhere to hide an unfinished interior.

How the set works

The set contains colored 3D printed interior elements that have no adhesive layer of their own. A part is cut out, dipped in lukewarm water for about fifteen seconds and slid off the paper into place, where it holds most reliably on gloss varnish. The mention of decal paper in the name refers to exactly this backing. Do not use decal softener or setting solution; they would attack the printed resin. The elements come with the color printing and the raised relief already done, so the instruments, the controls and the texture of the upholstery appear without any brush painting of tiny details. The set is prepared for the ICM kit in 1:35 scale.

Procedure

First paint the interior in a base shade, let it dry thoroughly and go over it with a gloss varnish such as Future, Klear or Tamiya X-22; the surface has to be smooth, clean and degreased. Dip the cut-out element, slide it off the backing into place and align it with tweezers or a damp brush. Blot off the excess water and press the element down with a soft stick or a cotton swab from the middle toward the edges. The relief then settles into the recesses and no air bubbles stay under it. Deal with larger areas such as the seats in stages.
