Twenty-eighth scale is one of the oddities of aircraft modelling. It owes its reputation almost entirely to a run of First World War biplanes, and new tooling in the format appears only sporadically. Dimensionally it slots neatly between the widely supported 1:32 and the even larger 1:24, so a finished machine stands comfortably beside either of its neighbours in a cabinet rather than looking stranded. For builders who already own a few large-scale subjects, a 1:28 biplane fills a gap without upsetting the visual balance of a shelf.
