At 1:8 an aircraft stops being a shelf model and becomes furniture. A single-engined fighter in this ratio spans well over a metre, so tooling is reserved for exceptional collector projects rather than regular releases, and anyone building one needs floor space, a plan for transport and a very steady approach to painting large flat surfaces. The appeal is obvious: at this size nothing is suggested, everything is modelled, from rib tapes to instrument bezels. It is the extreme end of aircraft modelling and it behaves accordingly.
