The tube is aluminum, it has an outside diameter of 4 mm, a wall thickness of 0.45 mm and a length of 305 mm. There is one piece in the package. From these dimensions the inside diameter works out at 3.1 mm, so a rod or a tube with an outside diameter of 3 mm can be pushed into it and the joint can be built up one inside the other. Aluminum is light and soft, it is easy to shorten and to shape, but for that very reason it will take less load than brass.
A metal tube replaces a plastic part wherever the wall is meant to be thin and the hole real, not merely suggested. It is used for barrels, exhausts, tubular frames and struts, masts, hydraulic lines or for the axles and pins of moving parts. It comes in just as useful on military hardware, aircraft and ships, because it is not a part tied to a scale.
It is shortened with a fine saw, turning the tube slowly as you cut so that the cut stays square. Pliers and quick squeezing deform the end, so pack the tube with wood when you clamp it. Remove the burr from the outer as well as the inner edge with a round file or the point of a knife. Before bending, reckon with the fact that a thin-walled tube will kink at the bend unless you support it or fill it. Make the joints with super glue or epoxy; aluminum cannot be joined with ordinary modeling solder.
Degrease the surface before painting and roughen it slightly, as the paint will not otherwise hold on smooth metal; then apply a suitable primer. Unless stated otherwise, glue, paints and tools are not part of the delivery.
