ATOM COLOR Dark Wood is a modeling paint, not a kit. It is a water-thinnable acrylic from AMMO's ATOM line in a 20 ml bottle. The pigment is very fine, the paint self-levels and dries quickly to a matte surface that does not fill in engraving or fine detail. It is odorless, thinned with water or thinner from the same line, and works with brush and airbrush. The shade is dark wood — a deep brown tone of stained, oiled or age-darkened wood.
Wood does not come from a single coat. A flat brown area looks exactly like what it is — plastic painted brown. Realistic wood is built in layers: first a base coat, then a darker glaze or wash pulled along the grain, which draws out the fibers and flows into engraved seams, and finally dry brushing in a lighter tone over edges and raised areas. Always work along the grain, never across it. Depending on your intent, this shade can serve either as a dark base under a lighter grain, or as a dark glaze over a lighter base. The dried paint is durable, so you can safely apply oil paints and enamel washes over it to refine the grain.
For builders of ships and dioramas, modelers of historical equipment, figure painters and collectors of wood-and-fabric-era aircraft — anywhere wood should look dark, old and used.
A water-thinnable acrylic — tools are cleaned with water or thinner from the ATOM line. Ventilate and protect your airways when airbrushing. Keep out of the reach of children, and close the bottle carefully after use.
