What a convex head is

Unlike a cone head, which sinks into a countersunk seat and ends level with the surface, a convex head arches above the surface. It stays visible as a small dome and reflects light differently from the sheet metal around it, so on a model it forms a regular row of bright points. In the middle it carries a star-shaped torx profile, that is a six-point recess, which breaks the shape up with a shadow and sets it apart from a mere glued-on bead.

The version and the size

According to the name this is a version tied to Ducati motorcycles, that is to the joints where convex heads are visible: the engine and clutch covers, the mounting of the brake discs, the joints of the frame or the attachment of the seat and the fairing. The marked size is 0.5 mm, which is the finest end of the range; at this size the detail carries mainly the outline and the reflection.

How to seat them

Lay the spacings out first, because irregularly placed heads catch the eye more than their absence; a thin pencil line or a strip of tape as a guide will help. Drill the holes so that the part sits without pressure, and glue with a drop of cyanoacrylate glue applied on the point of a pin; an excess would flood the recess. Work with tweezers over a light-colored pad with a rim. Degrease the parts before painting and spray them with a primer in a thin layer. The domed shape is drawn out well by a dark base and a light polish with metallic pigment over the crowns.

For builders of motorcycle models who want the shape of a head on the visible joints and not just a suggested dot. The package holds the screw heads only. A model, paints and glue are not part of it, unless stated otherwise.
