BATTLE ASHES is a liquid pigment from the weathering range of the AK interactive brand. According to the name it is a pigment stirred into an enamel, that is a solvent-based carrier: it is applied with a brush straight from the bottle and once the carrier has evaporated a flat pigment deposit stays on the surface. Against a loose powder, the work of fixing it falls away and the pigment is easier to get into places that are hard to reach with a brush loaded with powder.
Shake the bottle well before each use, as the pigment settles to the bottom and without stirring the carrier alone would be applied. Work on a surface that has dried through, ideally varnished over, so that you have the effect under control and any excess can be taken off. Apply it in thin coats and let each one dry; the result can be built up in steps and kept in check. Until a coat has dried, the transitions can be blended and the excess drawn off with a brush moistened in enamel thinner. Try the effect first in a hidden place or on an offcut of plastic.
For modelers of vehicles, aircraft and ships who build a realistic patina, for diorama builders and for figure painters and tabletop gamers who want to get the traces of the heat of battle onto a model. It can also be used on bases and stands, where it is to blend the model in with the scene.
Safety: a solvent-based product. Work in a ventilated room, away from an open flame, protect your skin and eyes and keep the packaging out of the reach of children.
