A resin set of figures in 1:35 scale from the Polish maker Mantis Miniatures. The figures are sculpted seated for an American light utility vehicle of the Second World War, so they fill the cab and give the vehicle both scale and a story. The set is supplied as unpainted castings to be cleaned up, assembled and painted. It is not a kit of the vehicle.
Throughout the Second World War the American light utility vehicle was a universal means of transport, used for liaison and reconnaissance, for carrying the wounded and for towing light weapons. That is exactly why it appears in countless period photographs, and almost always with a crew aboard. An empty model of this vehicle therefore looks unnatural, and seated figures are among the most useful additions you can get for it. A seated pose also solves a situation that standing figures simply cannot cover.
Wash the castings in lukewarm soapy water to remove the mold release residue. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a knife and wet-sand the surfaces with respiratory protection. Before gluing, try the figures in the cab dry: with seated figures the placement of the legs, the seat and the hands on the steering wheel is critical, and any slack is easier to adjust before painting. Glue with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Apply a thin primer, build the uniforms from a darker base toward the lighter surfaces and finish with a wash in the folds. Build the flesh tones up in glazes. Paint the figures outside the vehicle where possible and fit them only once they are painted, otherwise the brush will never reach the lower parts.
The figures are supplied as unassembled and unpainted resin castings. The model of the vehicle, glue and paints are not included in the package.
