The package contains four I-shaped profiles of polystyrene. Each has a cross section of 2.00 x 1.20 millimeters and a length of 350 millimeters, so together you get 1.4 meters of material. It is a semi-finished material from which you make a part yourself, not a finished model or a set for a particular kit. The same cross section is called I or H in modeling practice depending on how the profile is turned; the shape is the same in both cases, that is, two flanges joined by a web in the middle.
A beam profile is the basic building block wherever structure is to be seen on a model: lattice masts, bridge decks, crane jibs, chassis frames, roof trusses of halls and shelters, railings and loading ramps in a diorama. Because the cross section is the same along the whole length, dozens of identical parts can be cut from one piece, which with repeated elements is faster and more accurate than building them from flat strips.
Divide a profile by scoring it several times with a sharp blade against a ruler and then snapping it; with a saw the edges of the flanges fray easily. Sand the cut with fine sandpaper so that the end sits flat. Polystyrene is joined with ordinary solvent cement for plastic models, which welds the joint, or with super glue where you need to fix a position quickly. Wash the surface before painting, degrease it and apply a primer.
Glue, paints and tools are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
