Abteilung 502 Blues of War - Alabama Volunteers 1861 is a resin figure of a volunteer from the American Civil War 54 mm in size, meant for collector's painting and display.
Responsibility details are not available.
The resin figure from the brand Abteilung 502 treats the character of a volunteer from the beginning of the American Civil War. The figure of 54 mm gives the height of the figure, not a scale - it is an established collector's format in which figures of this type are released and collected.
What to expect from the figure
Figures in this format are meant above all to be painted. The work on the assembly is short, and the weight lies in preparing the surface and in painting the face, the hands and the cloth. The result is usually displayed on its own on a base rather than as part of a larger scene.
In 1861 a number of volunteer companies came about in the southern states, which soldiers often outfitted themselves or which a local community equipped. Uniform patterns did not yet exist, so coats, caps and equipment of the most varied cuts and colors appeared in the field, including dark blue forms. It is precisely this variety that makes the early phase of the conflict a rewarding theme for collector's figures - a painter has a freer hand than with the later standardized uniforms.
Wash the casting first in lukewarm water with dish soap and a soft brush, so that remains of the mold release agent are removed. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a sharp cutter, level the cuts with a file and sand the fine parting seams down; protect your breathing while sanding resin and work with wet abrasive. Join the parts with super glue and complete small gaps with filler. A thin coat of base paint follows - on smooth resin the paint does not hold without it and the shadows will not adhere either. Paint the face in graded steps from the shadows to the highlights; glazes and oil paints with a long working time suit cloth. Leave the metal parts and the buttons for the end, so as not to soil the light areas.
The figure is supplied unassembled and unpainted, cast in resin. Glue, paints and tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
