Carbon Fiber Grinding Plate – Trapezoid from U-STAR is a rigid carbon sanding plate of trapezoidal shape measuring 25x70 mm.
Responsibility details are not available.
Sanding with your fingers through abrasive paper is the most common reason a hollow is left on a model after a joint has been cleaned up. A finger is soft and follows the shape, so it sands the area around a joint more than it sands the excess itself. A rigid plate, by contrast, does not flex and takes material off along a plane, which is exactly what is needed on a glued gap in a fuselage or on a sprue remain that has been cut off.
Typically leveling glued gaps, taking down sprue remains, leveling the mating surface of a part before gluing and cleaning up a cut in plastic. The trapezoidal shape gives one narrower end with which you can work closer to the surrounding detail without hitting it with the whole face of the plate. The size of 25x70 mm is a working format for the hand: the plate is comfortable to hold and still has a long enough face for a sanded edge not to go wavy.
For anyone who builds plastic models and deals with gaps and sprue marks, that is, for practically every build. It will be appreciated especially by those who work on the large flat surfaces of fuselages and hulls, where a hollow left by sanding is obvious at first glance.
Check the grit of the abrasive and whether a sanding surface is included in the package on the box.
