Chibi-Maru First Carrier Division 1944 — Taiho, Shokaku and Zuikaku is a set of three cute distorted kits of Japanese aircraft carriers from Fujimi. An easy build, no conventional scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
This set from the Japanese manufacturer Fujimi brings three Chibi-Maru kits at once: the aircraft carriers Taiho, Shokaku and Zuikaku, which in 1944 made up the first carrier division of the Imperial Japanese Navy. These are not conventional scale models — the ships have shortened hulls and cutely exaggerated proportions, so they make up a compact fleet for a single shelf. Building all three is simple and quick.
Taiho was the most modern Japanese aircraft carrier of her day, with an armored flight deck; she was lost in June 1944 in the Battle of the Philippine Sea. The sister ships Shokaku and Zuikaku were among the most successful Japanese aircraft carriers of the war — Shokaku also went down in the Philippine Sea, Zuikaku a few months later in the fighting off Leyte. Their joint service in 1944 gave the set its name.
Build each ship separately and sort the parts out beforehand according to the instructions. Bond them with a thin cement for plastic and paint them with acrylics — a gray hull, a contrasting shade for the flight deck and small fittings will turn the trio into a telling group. A matte varnish at the end will unify the surface.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
