Chibi-Maru Fleet — the Hiei and Kirishima set (Naval Battle of Guadalcanal) from Fujimi holds two cute distorted kits of Japanese battleships. An easy build, no conventional scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
This set from the Japanese manufacturer Fujimi joins two Chibi-Maru kits: the battleships Hiei and Kirishima, which took part in the naval battles off Guadalcanal in November 1942. These are not conventional scale models — both ships have shortened hulls and cutely exaggerated proportions, so they make a likeable pair for the shelf. Building both is simple and quick.
Hiei and Kirishima belonged to the Kongo class, the fast battleships of the Imperial Japanese Navy originally built as battlecruisers and later modernized. Both were lost during the November night engagements off Guadalcanal in 1942 — Hiei after damage in an action with American cruisers and destroyers and the air raids that followed, Kirishima after a gunnery duel with American battleships. These were among the few direct duels between heavy ships in the Pacific.
Build the ships one after the other and do not mix the parts of the two kits. Bond them with a thin cement for plastic and paint them with acrylics — both ships in a gray scheme with a contrasting deck. A little drybrushing on the edges of the superstructures will give the pair depth, and a matte varnish goes on at the end.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
