The tool consists of an applicator handle with a tapered tip and peel and stick abrasive pieces, which stick onto the tip and form a conical sanding surface. The pieces can be peeled off, stuck back on and replaced, and they leave no glue residue. Grit 280 is the medium stage of the range: it follows coarse sanding and prepares the surface for a finer finish.
For modelers who build aircraft, equipment and cars and need a reliable medium stage of sanding in narrow places. Grit 280 is in practice the most used: it is aggressive enough for the marks of coarse sanding to disappear, yet it no longer leaves pronounced scratches. The ideal is to keep several grits of this range in the workshop and move between them without changing the handle.
