A decal sheet from the Colibri Decals brand in 1:72 scale devoted to the so-called Tauchpanzer, that is to Pz.Kpfw. IV medium tanks of the Ausf. D and Ausf. E versions converted for running beneath the surface of water. The package contains the decals alone; the model itself and paints are not part of it. The make-up of the sheet can be found on the packaging.
The Tauchpanzer conversion consisted in sealing the hull, the turret ring, the barrel and the hatches so that the vehicle could drive across the bed of a water obstacle. Air for the engine and the crew was brought in by a long flexible hose with a float on the surface, and the exhaust was fitted with non-return flaps. These machines originally arose in connection with preparations for a landing across the English Channel; after it was canceled, some of the vehicles were used for crossing watercourses in 1941. For a modeler it is precisely the sealing features and the different appearance of the exhaust and intake arrangements that are interesting.
Varnish the base under the decals with a gloss varnish and let it cure. Cut the motifs out close to the image, soak them briefly in lukewarm water and seat them with a soft brush. On tanks with sealing strips and additional features the markings often lie on a broken-up surface, so count on a softener. Once dry, even the model out with a matte varnish; if you plan to show the machine after fording, follow on with mud effects and pigments only on the varnished surface.
This is a supplementary decal sheet, not a kit. The model, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
