Three finished model trees from the German maker HEKI, eighteen centimeters tall. A poplar grows tall while staying narrow, so its silhouette cannot be mistaken for any other species. That can be used well on a layout: a group of poplars stretches a scene upward without taking the floor area a beech or oak of the same height would demand, and at the same time it can hide the transition between the layout and the backdrop.

How to work with the trees

The tree is pushed into a pre-drilled hole or glued by the foot of the trunk. With a tall slender shape stability is essential, so make the hole deeper and fix the trunk in it with a drop of glue. Poplars almost never occur on their own in the landscape; they were planted in avenues and along grassy strips between fields, so set them one behind another at uneven spacing and slightly tilted. Add grass under the crown.
