About product

Cartridges of .50 caliber (12.7 mm) 1:16 - 25 pieces of turned metal cartridges (MASTER)

The package holds 25 pieces of turned metal cartridges of .50 caliber, that is 12.7 mm, in the large modeling scale of 1:16. It is neither a kit nor a model of the weapon but small metal accessories meant for detailing models of vehicles, figure scenes and dioramas. The number of pieces comes straight from the designation of the product. The maker is the Polish brand MASTER.

Why metal cartridges in a large scale

The 1:16 scale is so large that the material shows on a model. Plastic or resin cartridges always have a mold parting line and a matte surface, and under paint they become nothing but a shape: a metallic sheen cannot be imitated credibly with paint. A turned metal cartridge, by contrast, has a real metal surface and a precisely symmetrical shape of the case, which stands up to a close look, and because there are twenty-five of them they can be used as loose ammunition in a box, in a belt or scattered by the weapon, where a repeating shape is judged most strictly.

Tips for use and weathering

Degrease the cartridges with alcohol or in a degreasing bath before any surface treatment: from production there tends to be a thin film of oil on them. After that you have a choice. The simplest way is to leave the metal surface alone and only knock the sheen back and weather it lightly, so that the ammunition does not look as if it came from a display case. If you want to tell the brass case and the darker bullet apart, use chemical oxidation or a bluing solution, which color the metal with no layer of finish; paint would round off the edges of the primer and the grooves on such small parts. Fix loose cartridges in a diorama with thinned cyanoacrylate or with matte varnish applied with a dropper, not with a solution that would go white under them.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of dioramas and figure scenes in 1:16 scale.
  • Modelers who detail open interiors, ammunition boxes or the space by a weapon.
  • Those who want a real metal surface instead of painted plastic.
  • Builders who can use a larger number of identical parts for a repeating detail.

The accessories are supplied unpainted. The paints, the weathering products and the basic model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise. These are small parts: keep them out of the reach of small children.

FAQ

Twenty-five pieces: this figure is part of the designation of the product.

It is not. These are purely the cartridges themselves, as an accessory for detailing a model or a diorama.

You do not, and often it is better not to. It is enough to degrease the metal, knock the sheen back and weather it lightly. To tell the case and the bullet apart, use chemical oxidation rather than an opaque paint.

Fix loose pieces with a drop of thinned cyanoacrylate or with matte varnish applied with a dropper. Avoid solutions that go white under a part.
