A resin set of tracks for models of the Pz.Kpfw III and Pz.Kpfw IV tanks in 1:16 scale, in the form designated type 5a. It is an accessory, not a tank kit. Besides the more accurate shape of the links, this swap has one further advantage that builders of large models will appreciate above all: a track built from individual parts can be shaped so that its upper run sags naturally between the rollers, which a soft track from the box as a rule cannot do.
The running gear of the Pz.Kpfw IV led the upper run of the track over several return rollers, so a characteristic sag arose between them. The Pz.Kpfw III had a similar arrangement and both types therefore shared tracks of the same family, whose form gradually changed during production. The shape of the link and the traction features is thus one of the details from which the phase of production a particular machine comes from can be estimated.
After washing off the mold release agent and removing the casting blocks, assemble the track in longer runs and let the glue set partially. At that stage lay the run on the rollers and gently give it the shape of the sag; only then let the joints cure. It is glued with super glue, which hardens fast, so work in sections and have it thought out in advance where the track will rest on the model. Painting: primer, a dark steel or brownish base, a dark wash into the recesses, a metallic pigment on the edges and the contact surfaces and, at the end, dust pigments on the bottom of the running gear.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
