The set is conceived as an accessory to models of aircraft carriers in 1:200 scale, where it lets you populate the flight deck and the parking areas with a believable number of machines.
The Wildcat was an American carrier fighter with a radial engine, a stressed-skin structure and characteristic landing gear cranked by hand into the fuselage. It formed the main fighter strength of the US Navy in the first years of the war in the Pacific and also served with British naval aviation. Against more agile opponents it did better than its flight performance suggested, thanks to a tough structure, armor and self-sealing tanks, and its pilots developed tactics of fighting in pairs. Later versions received folding wings, which sharply increased the number of machines that would fit into a carrier's hangar. The Wildcat stayed in service even after the Hellcat replaced it on the large ships, above all on small escort carriers.
In this scale the parts are very small, so separate them with a sharp cutter and dress the remains of the gates with a fine file. The landing gear and the propellers are the most delicate parts, so expect to work under a magnifier and with tweezers. Apply the paint with an airbrush in thin coats so that the surface detail does not flood. For the cockpit glazing it is enough to suggest a light shade with a fine brush. If you place some of the machines with their wings folded, a deck diorama gains in credibility, as do suggested tie-down lines and chocks under the wheels.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
