About product

The left-hand-drive version of a sports coupe interior

On the Japanese home market the Silvia S13 had the wheel on the right, but for export the whole instrument panel was mirrored. The set captures exactly the export form: the instrument cluster moved to the left side, the ventilation controls in a different place, the door cards the other way round, and a matching center console with the seats. On this coupe the interior shows well through the large side glazing, so the work put in really does tell on the finished model.

The artwork is thin and pliable, and that is its main strength. The transition from the panel into the side trim, the bulged front of the tunnel or the rounded seat backs are places where a stiff metal part would stand off and would have to be laboriously formed. The cut-out part is soaked in lukewarm water for about fifteen seconds and slid off the backing paper onto an area coated with gloss varnish; there it draws down to the radius and to the edge and holds without creases once dry. It has no adhesive layer of its own; on broken-up places a drop of cyanoacrylate glue helps. Do not use a decal softener or a decal fixer, as the chemicals attack the printed resin.

The printed shades match the factory combination of dark fabric and plastics, so painting the interior shrinks to the surrounding areas of the part. The metal elements, which do have an adhesive layer of their own, add shine where the print would look flat, that is on the framing and the lettering.

The goods consist of equipment for a plastic model of the car, which has to be obtained separately. Before application it is worth trying the cut-outs dry and marking the position, because once it has been slid off the paper the artwork can only be moved over the gloss varnish for a short while.

FAQ

What decides is the side the wheel is on in the car being built. This set has the instrument cluster on the left, the Japanese form has it on the right.

With the ordinary procedure, no. The artwork is thin and after a short soak and a slide off the backing paper it draws down to the radius and to the edge. Do not use a decal softener for this, as the chemicals attack the printed resin.

Yes, the area should be coated with gloss varnish, for example Future or Tamiya X-22. The part has no adhesive layer of its own and will not hold on a matte surface, where a silvering haze also appears easily.
