A version of the set aimed at munitions in muted shades. Where earlier practice went for colorful bands, the air forces moved to markings that are not meant to give an aircraft away before its radar does. It is added to the racks of a machine under construction.
From the late 1970s a drive for the least possible conspicuousness took hold with American units. Bold national insignia, colored unit markings and colorful bands on munitions gave way to gray and black shades of low contrast. Munitions under a wing form a fairly large area seen from the side, so their finish has more bearing on the overall impression than it might seem. It is for exactly this reason that makers list the subdued and the colorful version separately.
A subdued finish forgives fewer mistakes in the transitions, but it gives away every imperfection of the surface. It therefore pays to spend time on sanding and a filling primer. Choose the shades according to the period you are building; later machines carry munitions in grays close to the aircraft's own finish. Keep the final picking out of the engraving merely suggested, so the contrast does not grow beyond measure.
Obtain the finishing materials according to your own habit.
