About product

A metal pitot tube for the BAe Hawk T.1 in 1:32 scale

An accessory from the Polish brand MASTER that replaces the plastic pitot tube on a model of the BAe Hawk T.1 trainer in the large 1:32 scale. It is a single type of part, not an armament or interior set, and it does not include the model itself.

Why especially in a large scale

The larger the scale, the more mercilessly the shortcomings of a plastic part show. In 1:32 the pitot tube is long enough to come out of the mold slightly bowed, and the parting line along its whole length is visible without a magnifier. Sanding it off a thin cone without spoiling the shape is practically impossible. Turned metal arrives straight, true and of constant diameter, its face has a real opening, and in the hand it is distinctly more rigid. That helps in practice too, because a model in a large scale is carried more often and the tube on the tip is the first thing to hit the frame of a display case.

Fitting and painting tips

Cut off the plastic original, level the surface and drill a hole for the pin. Drill in stages from a smaller diameter so that the bit does not wander. Glue the metal with a fast-setting cyanoacrylate, or with epoxy if you need time to align the axis. Check the alignment from above as well as from the front, since a crooked tube gives a model away at once. Before painting, degrease the metal with alcohol and use a primer for metal. Many modelers leave the metal tube partly bare and only darken it by blackening or with a light wash, which gives a natural metal look with no risk of the paint flaking.

Who the part is for

  • Builders of the Hawk T.1 model in 1:32 scale
  • Modelers who build large scales and care about the detail on the nose
  • Display case models shown at eye level
  • Anyone whose plastic tube has snapped or arrived bowed

This is a replacement detail, not a kit. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It is not. This is purely a replacement metal detail for a model you already have.

Cut off the plastic tube, drill a hole for the pin and glue the metal part in with cyanoacrylate or epoxy.

Yes. It is enough to polish the metal and darken it with a blackening solution or a wash. If you do paint it, a primer for metal is necessary.
