The real subject

The General Dynamics F-16 is an American single-engined multirole fighter. You will recognize it by the frameless bubble canopy that gives the pilot a view all around, by the smooth blending of the wing into the fuselage and by the air intake set under the nose. The B version is a two-seater and belongs to the older family, the C version is a single-seater and belongs to the later one. For a builder the difference between them matters mainly in the cockpit and in the upper part of the fuselage behind it.

The set

This is an add-on set for the F-16 in 1:32 scale, that is for a large scale in which fine detail is worth handling with separate parts. Which parts of the aircraft the set covers and which kit it is cut for are specified on the box and in the manufacturer's instructions. Follow them when modifying the model as well: accessories of this kind usually replace the original plastic parts and room has to be made for them on the kit.

Preparing the parts

Cut the excess material off with a sharp blade a little way from the part and carefully sand the remainder so that you do not sand away the edge the shape rests on. Try the mating surfaces dry and remove from the model anything that would keep the part from seating. The suitable glue and the particular preparation procedure are given by the manufacturer in the instructions, so follow them. Before painting, wash and degrease the surface and lay the finish over a primer coat, otherwise it flakes off a smooth surface.
