The set completes the stores of a model with bombs of the Mk.83 type in the BSU-35 tail form. According to the name these are four pieces in 1:32 scale, that is in the size where the mounting lugs and the parting joints of the tail section are already visible on the body.

What the Mk.83 is

The Mk.83 belongs to the American Mk 80 family of aerial bombs and corresponds to the 1000 pound class. It is a classic smooth body onto which various tail units, fuzes and guidance kits are fitted according to the task. The abbreviation BSU denotes exactly such a stabilizing unit; its shape decides how the bomb behaves after release and at the same time gives the whole its characteristic silhouette seen from behind.

Building and painting

First lay all the pieces out side by side and check whether their mounting lugs are oriented the same way; asymmetry under a wing is the most conspicuous mistake. Level the faces left after separation with fine-grit sandpaper and only light pressure. Run the finish in thin coats so that the artwork of the tail section is not lost, and leave enough time between coats to dry. Uniform shades across all the pieces look better than trying to set each bomb apart.
