1:32 Skyflash (RB71/Av.71) missiles (4 pcs) (British Phantom, Tornado, Viggen)

Four Skyflash missiles in the large scale

Cast guided missiles of British origin intended for models in 1:32. Resin holds the thin profiles of the fins and the sharp tip of the radar seeker, that is exactly the places that tend to be thickened and rounded most on injected plastic parts.

The British answer to a weakness of its predecessor

The Skyflash grew out of the American Sparrow missile, but it received a new semi-active radar seeker of British manufacture. That coped far better with a target flying low over the ground, where older receivers lost the trace among reflections from the surface. The weapon served on British Phantoms and later on the interceptor version of the Tornado, the Swedish Air Force introduced it under its own designation and the fighter Viggen carried it. The combination of a proven body with new electronics made it one of the most widespread European missiles of its time.

Before you seat the missiles

Check whether all four castings are straight; slender bodies in resin sometimes warp, and putting that right with gentle heat is easier before painting. A position under the fuselage and under the wing calls for different mountings, so compare the placement with the kit. A light base with color bands goes on a carefully flattened surface, otherwise the paint holds badly on smooth resin.

• Swedish aircraft in the large size
