A plastic kit of the quarter-ton 4x4 utility vehicle in its field ambulance form, 1:35 scale. The box holds injection-molded sprues, decals and instructions; the builder obtains the glue and paints.
Responsibility details are not available.
The quarter-ton 4x4 utility car became a universal tool of the Allied armies in the Second World War, and the medical service adapted it in its own way. Carrying frames were fitted to the rear of the body, stretchers slid into them horizontally, and an accompanying tarpaulin sheltered the wounded from rain and sun. What resulted was a vehicle that got closer to the line than any ambulance body on a truck chassis, and it still carried two lying men and a medic.
This is a classic injection-molded kit: sprues with the parts, a decal sheet and building instructions. The body is made up of several parts, the engine compartment and the front grille are built separately, and the stretcher frames form a subassembly of their own. Tools, glue, filler and paints are not part of the delivery.
The extent of the work matches an evening or two, so it is a good choice for a beginner as well as for an experienced modeler looking for a supporting vehicle for a diorama. In 1:35 scale the car goes well with figures and field equipment, because that scale is the most widespread one for ground vehicles.
On the ambulance version the tarpaulin and the placing of the stretchers decide the result. If you build the model with the rear open, the space under the frames should be empty and clean, because that is exactly where the stretchers belonged; a closed tarpaulin, on the other hand, lets you simplify the build and concentrate on the finish and the markings.
On the ambulance version the basic vehicle can be filled out with resin wheels, a tarpaulin or a crew.
