The DANA vz. 77 is a Czechoslovak 152 mm self-propelled gun-howitzer. It differed from most self-propelled guns of its day in that it does not sit on tracks but on a Tatra wheeled chassis with 8x8 all-wheel drive, which gave it a long road range and easier maintenance. The turret with the gun sits above the rear part of the vehicle, and the machine stayed in service at home and abroad for decades.
The barrel from a kit tends to be split into two halves, so after gluing a lengthwise seam remains that has to be sanded away, and the round section is easily lost with it. A turned part is finished in one piece: it has an accurate round section, a clean muzzle and does not deform. On a model in 1:35 scale the long barrel is the most conspicuous feature of the whole silhouette, so every inaccuracy shows on it. According to the product name, the part is prepared for Hobby Boss kits.
Try the barrel mounting dry and check that the part points along the axis of the vehicle, seen from above and from the side alike. Cement for plastic models does not hold here; use cyanoacrylate or a two-part glue. Degrease the part before painting and apply a base coat, or the paint will rub off the smooth surface. Match the shade to the rest of the model, and you can pick the muzzle out slightly with a darker tone suggesting firing.
