The accessory replaces the simplified plastic gun in the turret under the forward fuselage of the AH-64 Apache attack helicopter. According to the product name the rendering is in the parking position, that is as the turret stays on the ground with a parked machine. The manufacturer also makes a variant in the flight position, so when choosing, go by whether you are building the machine on the flight line or in flight. The set is an accessory for an existing kit in 1:35 scale; according to the product name it is cut for the Trumpeter kit.
The M230 is a 30 mm automatic cannon that forms the main onboard armament of the AH-64 Apache helicopter. It is carried in a rotating turret under the forward fuselage and its movement is tied to the crew's sighting system. On the ground the turret swings into its rest position, in which the barrel points aft under the fuselage; it is exactly this position that the rendering of this set corresponds to. The difference between the flight and parking positions is clearly visible on a model and is essential for a faithful rendering of a parked machine.
Wash the resin parts with lukewarm water and detergent, otherwise neither the paint nor the glue will hold. Cut off the casting blocks with a fine saw and level the surface so that the gun seats at the right angle. It is bonded with super glue (cyanoacrylate); with the thin barrel it pays to reinforce the joint with a piece of wire glued in. Sand wet and with respiratory protection. After the primer apply a dark metallic shade, pick out the muzzle with graphite or pigment and underline the seams of the turret with a wash.
The set is an accessory, not a kit of the whole helicopter. It is supplied unassembled and unpainted; glue, paints and the base model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
