This item is not a model of an aircraft but an add-on set from the Reskit brand: replacement landing gear wheels cast in resin in 1:48 scale. Wheels from a boxed kit tend to be the weakest point of a finished model — the parting line runs exactly through the middle of the tire and the rim, so once it is sanded away even the fine relief disappears. A resin casting is seamless and holds sharp engraving on the rim and the sidewall, which is immediately apparent on an aircraft with such markedly splayed landing gear.
The North American F-100 Super Sabre was an American fighter of the first generation of supersonic types. The F-100A version was the opening production standard in a purely fighter role, with a swept wing, an oval nose air intake and a jet engine with an afterburner. From the later fighter-bomber versions it differed among other things in its shorter vertical tail and the smaller span of the first machines; later modifications to production examples partly erased these differences.
With resin wheels, cut the casting blocks off with a saw at the point where the casting sits on the ground — any trace of the cut then stays hidden. Wash the parts with dish soap, so that no mold release agent is left on them. It pays to paint the tire and the rim separately: first spray the whole wheel in the shade of the tire, then mask it with a circular mask and spray the rim. A tire is never black — a dark gray shade suits it, and it can be lifted slightly with a dry brush or with pigment. It is glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue).
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
