Mikromir 1:350 SSBN-608 Ethan Allen is a plastic kit of the American nuclear ballistic missile submarine, the lead boat of her class.
Responsibility details are not available.
An unassembled plastic kit of a nuclear submarine carrying ballistic missiles, in 1:350 scale from Mikromir. For submarines and surface ships 1:350 is the most widespread scale, so the model will fit in well among other pieces of a collection built to the same key. The exact number of parts, the way the hull is divided and any additional materials are given on the box of the kit.
The Ethan Allen was the lead boat of the class of American nuclear submarines of the same name. Unlike the earlier generation she was not a conversion of an attack submarine but a design laid out from the start to carry ballistic missiles. The class stopped at five built boats and they served from the early 1960s. The characteristic feature of the silhouette is the long missile section between the sail and the stern, which gives the hull a markedly different length-to-diameter ratio from that of attack submarines.
With submarines a clean hull is what decides. Fill the seams after joining the halves thoroughly and sand them smooth, because they would otherwise show up under a flat or semi-gloss paint. It pays off to spray a filler primer first, which reveals small flaws before the final shade. The usual scheme is a dark upper shade and a different lower hull; run the dividing line along masking tape and keep the transition straight. Sonar panels, covers and hatches can be suggested with a slight difference in sheen instead of outlining them. For display, a cradle or a base with a label suits well.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
