Kinetic 1:48 FMA IA-58A Pucará - a plastic kit of the Argentine twin-engine turboprop attack aircraft, with photo-etched parts and decals for two aircraft (Argentina and Uruguay).
Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit of the Argentine attack aircraft FMA IA-58A Pucará in 1:48 scale from Kinetic - a Hong Kong company that concentrates above all on modern military aircraft. The boxing contains gray plastic, a separate clear sprue for the canopy and the light covers and a photo-etched fret; the decals offer two aircraft - one in the colors of the Argentine and one of the Uruguayan air force. The tooling is modern and very good: fine engraved panel lines, selective riveting, a well-executed cockpit and landing gear bays. Let us be honest, though - reviewers point out that some of the parts (the photo-etched static discharge wicks in particular) are very small and that the instructions could be better; nose weight is also needed so that the model does not sit on its tail, and it is sensible to think about that at the start of the build, not at the last steps.
The FMA IA-58 Pucará is an Argentine twin-engine turboprop attack aircraft developed for counter-insurgency (COIN) work and direct support of ground units. It was deliberately designed to handle operations from short, unpaved strips - it has a rugged landing gear, a good view out of the tandem cockpit and long endurance over the target, which for a slow attack aircraft is worth more than speed. The best known chapter of its service is the Falklands War of 1982, where Argentine Pucarás operated against British forces. The aircraft also served in other South American countries - among them Uruguay, at which the second marking option in the boxing is aimed.
The practical thing first: put nose weight into the forward fuselage before you glue it together. Glue the plastic with liquid cement for polystyrene, and the small photo-etched parts (above all the static discharge wicks) with super glue and tweezers - it pays to fit them at the very end, after painting. Build and paint the propeller blades and the spinners separately. The camouflage schemes of attack aircraft tend to be three-color with soft transitions: spray with an airbrush at low pressure and with heavily thinned paint, or use masking putty for a soft edge. Apply a gloss clear coat before the decals, flatten it once dry and add dust and sooty exhaust stains - operational aircraft from field strips were never clean.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
