The Mitsubishi F-2A is a single-seat combat aircraft of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force. It grew out of the American F-16, but the Japanese version received a larger wing and a whole series of its own systems, so it differs from the original in shape as well. The letter A marks the single-seat variant; the two-seat trainer version carries the designation F-2B. The cockpit is modern, with large screens and complex side consoles, and on a model in 1:48 scale that is exactly what is most on view.
These are three-dimensional decals on decal paper, which carry a raised relief and color printing. They replace hand painting of the instrument panel and the side consoles and add details that cannot be molded into injection-molded plastic. The set is made to measure for the Hasegawa kit in 1:48 scale.
First paint the surfaces in the cockpit and let them dry completely, because the decals hold considerably better on a smooth, degreased surface. The exact application procedure is given in the manufacturer's instructions and it is worth following. Separate the elements with a sharp knife only just before applying them and place them with tweezers, because a bent part is hard to straighten again. Dry-fit the seat and the cockpit frame, so that the finished interior does not stop you closing the fuselage. Before applying, check the way the elements are fixed in the instructions as well; the application procedure differs between the ranges and the part number does not tell you which it is.
The set suits a modeler who wants an open cockpit and does not want to spend hours painting the instruments with a brush. The package contains the decals; the kit itself, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
