A set of shaped plugs of flexible foam for masking the landing gear bays on a model of the Dassault Mirage 2000 in 1:48 scale from the Kinetic kit. It is NOT an airplane kit; it is a masking accessory and you have to have the model yourself. The plugs follow the shape of the bays of this particular kit and will not fit a kit from another manufacturer or another scale.
A landing gear bay is a deep cavity that a modeler paints first. Before spraying the outside of the model it has to be masked, otherwise the painstakingly painted interior is ruined by overspray. Masking a deep, irregular cavity with tape and cotton wool is a nuisance and does not seal well anyway. A plug is a shaped part that drops exactly into the bay and seals it: it goes in, the model is sprayed and once the paint has dried the plug comes out. It also protects the bay during sanding and from settled dust.
The plugs are made of flexible foam. Foam compresses inside the bay and seals itself, so it does not have to fit to hundredths of a millimeter as a hard 3D-printed insert would; it holds without glue and pulls out easily.
The Dassault Mirage 2000 is a French single-engine fighter with a delta wing, that is a triangular wing with no horizontal tail surfaces. It came about as the successor to the older French deltas and became the backbone of the French fighter force as well as an export success. The delta configuration has a practical consequence for the modeler: the arrangement of the landing gear and its bays is different from a conventional aircraft with tailplanes, as the bays are placed and shaped differently, and that is why they call for their own plugs shaped to suit.
This is not a kit. The package contains only the landing gear bay plugs; the model, paints and glue are not part of it.
