The PBY Catalina was a twin-engined flying boat with a high wing carried on a pylon, one of the most widespread machines of its category. It flew long patrols over the sea, hunted submarines and escorted convoys, but many machines also served for searching for and rescuing crews on the water. The PBY-5 version is a pure flying boat that sets down on its hull, while the PBY-5A is the amphibious modification with retractable landing gear that can also manage a concrete runway. Under the designation OA-10A the amphibious Catalina was operated by the US Army Air Forces.
This is an accessory from the figure range in 1:48 scale, tied to a model of the Catalina in the versions named. The parts count and the way they are seated are given in the manufacturer's instructions. The package is supplied unpainted, so choose the colors according to which configuration of the Catalina you are building and according to the environment in which the machine served.
Cut the excess material off with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the remainder so that the mating surface is flat. Before painting, wash the surface in lukewarm soapy water and degrease it, or the paint will hold badly. A dry test-fit pays off before you reach for the glue, because on the large hull of a flying boat any inaccuracy shows up at once. Choose the colors according to the scene you are setting the model in.
