An injection-molded plastic kit in 1:48 scale from the manufacturer Kinetic. The subject is the T-45C Goshawk, the advanced jet trainer of the US Navy adapted for operation from aircraft carriers. The model is supplied as a classic kit in hard polystyrene that has to be assembled, painted and provided with decals. The exact contents of the package and the number of parts and of schemes are given in the instructions and on the packaging.
The T-45 Goshawk derives from the British Hawk trainer, but for carrier service it went through an extensive rebuild: it received a tailhook, strengthened and lengthened landing gear with a twin nose wheel, modified high-lift devices of the wing and the other modifications necessary for catapult launches and arrested landings on deck. The power plant is a jet engine derived from the Adour family. The T-45C version differs from the older T-45A in its modernized instrument panel with multi-function displays, which brings the environment of contemporary combat aircraft closer to the students. The machines serve in the advanced phase of pilot training, that is in the last stage before the transition to operational types.
On a trainer the cockpit is a two-seater and clearly visible, so it pays to devote time to the interior and to work up the seats and the instrument panels before the fuselage is closed up. Glue the parts with liquid modeling cement for plastic, which is drawn into the seam. Apply a primer before painting and spray thin coats with an airbrush. Training machines carry pronounced colored areas and lettering, so lay the decals over gloss varnish and fix them with a softener; a final matte or semi-gloss coat will unify the surface. Keep the weathering restrained: the aircraft of training units tend to be well maintained, and what stands out is rather the traces of operation on the leading edges, at the engine outlet and around the landing gear bays.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
