The interior fit of the two-seat TA-4J Skyhawk trainer in color. It covers both the front and the rear station, which differ in equipment on the real aircraft. Created for the Hasegawa kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The US Navy needed a cheap and reliable machine for advanced training of jet pilots and found it in the lengthened two-seat conversion of the Skyhawk. The TA-4J version was based on the combat-equipped predecessor, but without most of the attack systems, which made it cheaper and simpler. It was flown by training wings and later also by units demonstrating enemy tactics. Its characteristic features are the lengthened fuselage and the pair of canopies one behind the other.
The rear station is not a copy of the front one. The instructor has the gauges arranged differently, a smaller range of controls and different side consoles. A set intended for a single-seat machine would therefore fill only half the job and the rest would have to be made by hand. That is at the same time why printed interiors are tied not only to a scale but also to a particular version of the real aircraft.
The similarity of the names invites the assumption that sets are transferable between versions. They are not. Besides the different equipment, the length of the tub and the position of the bulkheads differ as well, so a sheet cut from another set will not fit. Before buying, therefore, always compare the version designation, not just the type of aircraft.
Finish both tubs before you glue the fuselage together. Start with the panels and the side walls and leave the belts until last. Fit the clear parts dry and check that the layer does not stop the frame seating anywhere.
Spread the work over two evenings; haste does not pay with thin film.
