This is a photo-etched brass set from the Japanese maker Aoshima, intended for the detailed improvement of models of the Japanese battleship Yamato in 1:700 scale. The set replaces the coarser plastic parts with fine photo-etched surfaces, such as railings, ladders, radars and other fine superstructure fittings, which cannot be captured in plastic at so small a scale.
Yamato was a flagship and, together with her sister Musashi, the largest battleship ever built. Her main battery consisted of nine 460 mm guns. She served with the Imperial Japanese Navy in the Second World War and became a symbol of the era of the great battleships.
Separate the photo-etched parts with a sharp knife on a hard surface and bend them over a metal edge. They are bonded with super glue applied in the smallest possible amount. It is worth painting the railings and the fine surfaces while they are still on the fret, before fitting them to the model.
This is a supplementary detail set, not a model of the ship. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
