1:700 HMS Hood 1931 is a plastic kit of the British battlecruiser as she was in 1931, in 1:700 scale from Trumpeter.
Responsibility details are not available.
Injection-molded plastic kit of the famous British battlecruiser in 1:700 scale. The year in the name does not mark the launching of the ship but the state the model represents, that is, her interwar shape from the beginning of the 1930s. The box contains both the upper and the lower hull and allows a full-hull model on a stand as well as a waterline version; a nameplate is enclosed.
HMS Hood was the only completed ship of the Admiral class and for two decades she counted as the largest warship in the world. She entered service in 1920 and in the interwar years became both a flagship and a showpiece of the Royal Navy on overseas cruises. Her main armament consisted of eight 381 mm guns in four twin turrets. Her career ended in May 1941 in the action against Bismarck, in which the ship exploded and almost the whole crew was lost. Her interwar state therefore shows Hood in the shape most modelers associate with representative service in peacetime rather than with wartime operations.
Interwar British ships carried a lighter gray and clean paintwork without wartime weathering, so it pays to take the painting all the way to a smooth surface. Mask off the wooden decks and pick out the seams with a darker shade. The finest parts are the masts, the booms and the boats, so fit them last. For the waterline version choose a calm water surface to match a peacetime cruise.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
