The set contains two turned metal barrels of the 20 mm Oerlikon automatic cannon in 1:72 scale, according to the designation intended among other things for the anti-aircraft version of the Crusader tank. It is not a vehicle model but a set of replacement parts. On a twin mount the great advantage of metal is that both barrels stay parallel and at exactly the right spacing, which is a common stumbling block on plastic parts, and that they have a genuine bore.
The 20 mm Oerlikon is an automatic cannon of Swiss origin that spread during the Second World War as an anti-aircraft weapon with ground forces and on the decks of ships. The anti-aircraft version of the British Crusader tank carried twin barrels of this type in its turret. Characteristic is the slender barrel with a markedly stepped muzzle, which plastic moldings in a small scale usually simplify and thicken.
Before you cut the plastic barrels off, measure their spacing and note it down so that you have a check when drilling the holes. Drill both holes at once along one plane so that the barrels do not each point somewhere else. Bond the metal with super glue drop by drop and check the position from the front and from above. Once fitted, it is enough to polish the surface lightly with fine abrasive paper and weather the barrel with a dark wash; metal takes polishing without losing its shape. Before painting, do not forget to degrease and to use a primer meant for metal.
