3DF 1:72 AI Mk.IV radar is a set of antenna elements of the British airborne radar for models of night fighters in 1:72 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The accessory covers the external antenna fit that British night fighters carried in the first years of the war. It is exactly these small elements on the nose and the wings that turn an ordinary day fighter into a recognizable night type, and in kits they tend to be either coarse or missing altogether. The package contains the accessory; the aircraft has to be obtained separately.
The AI Mk.IV was a British airborne radar intended to find a target in the dark once direction from a ground station was no longer enough. It entered service at the turn of 1940 and 1941 and became the first practically usable system of its kind. It worked on a metric wavelength, so it needed transmitting and receiving antennas outside the airframe, in the nose, on the wings and along the sides of the fuselage. Its introduction markedly changed the effectiveness of the night defense of Britain.
Position and fit the parts before the final finishing so that the contact points can be cleaned up. Pre-drill the holes with the finest drill you have and try the antennas dry first. Apply the paint in thin coats, because a thick coat immediately coarsens the scale of the part. Finally, protect the finished antennas whenever you handle the model further.
The aircraft model, paints and tools are not included in the package.
