Plastic kit 1:72 BAC Lightning F.Mk.3 from Trumpeter: the British interceptor with its engines stacked one above the other.
Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit of the British interceptor Lightning in the F.Mk.3 version in 1:72 scale from Trumpeter. The type originated at English Electric, which later became part of the BAC group.
The Lightning was a single-seat interceptor of British aviation built around a single idea: to get as high as possible as fast as possible. It has a highly swept wing, a circular nose air intake with a conical centerbody and an utterly unusual powerplant layout in which two jet engines sit in the fuselage one above the other. Thanks to that it had exceptional rate of climb and acceleration. The F.3 version received more powerful Avon series engines, an enlarged vertical tail with a squared-off top and Red Top guided missiles as armament; unlike the older versions, the cannon in the nose were deleted. The Lightning served with British aviation as its main interceptor in the 1960s and 1970s.
The front air intake and its duct are on show, so it pays to fill, sand and paint them before the fuselage is closed up. Finish the cockpit at the same stage. Most machines flew in bare metal or in light gray, which makes demands on a flawless surface: use a filler primer and inspect the seams against a hard light before painting. Take a gloss coat over the surfaces before the decals, and with a metal finish choose a gloss or satin final coat.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
