An injection-molded plastic kit of the DH-9A biplane in 1:72 scale from Kovozavody Prostejov. The release is aimed at machines in Australian service.
The Airco DH-9A is a two-seat single-engine bomber biplane from the end of the First World War. It came about as a reworking of the DH-9 type, whose weak point was an underpowered and unreliable engine. The new version was given the American Liberty V12 powerplant, thanks to which performance at altitude and the useful load improved markedly. The crew consisted of a pilot and an observer with a rear flexible gun position.
The postwar career
After the First World War ended the type stayed in service for years and was used for patrol and liaison duties in remote areas, where its range and its ability to carry a load were valued. Machines of this type also reached Australia, where they served in the interwar period.
With a biplane the alignment of the flying surfaces is the key. Test-fit the struts dry first and only then glue them, and seat the upper wing in a jig or at least against a ruler, so that both the angle and the stagger come out right. Add the bracing wires between the struts from a thin filament — in 1:72 scale a really fine material is enough. Fabric surfaces look better with a slightly subdued sheen, while a smoother finish suits the metal parts of the cowling. Apply the decals over a gloss base.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
