The real subject

The Fw 190 was among the best German fighters of the Second World War. The A-series version was powered by the air-cooled 14-cylinder radial engine BMW 801, which gave the aircraft ruggedness and good performance at low and medium altitudes. The later A-7 and A-8 sub-versions strengthened the armament (a combination of machine guns and 20 mm cannons), and the A-8 became one of the most numerous variants produced. A number of well-known Luftwaffe aces flew the Fw 190A.

Building and painting tips

Finish and paint the cockpit before closing up the fuselage. Glue with thin liquid cement for plastic, and fill and sand the fuselage seams. Spray a primer coat, then the typical splinter camouflage on the upper surfaces and a light underside with an airbrush. Mask the clear canopy before spraying. Apply a gloss coat before the decals so the Luftwaffe ace markings settle without silvering, and seal with matte varnish.
